Thank you Duxbury for the Treats for Troops!

DSU asked the unthinkable with a surprisingly sweet response! Children, parents, and Duxbury residents of all ages together donated over 300 pounds of Halloween Candy at the Duxbury Student Union last Thursday.

Allison Berry, DSU Marketing Manager said, “I have four kids of my own and although the trick or treating is a blast, I dread the influx of sugar every Halloween. When I saw what Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops (CCC4T) was doing to sweeten things up for the troops, I immediately thought about DSU, our central location and youthful audience as well as our mission to encourage youth to think beyond, and give of, themselves.  As a non-profit, the cost of shipping candy overseas would have been prohibitive for us, but with the process in place at CCC4T it was a no-brainer to offer this event.”
DSU is thankful to Duxbury Childrens Dentistry who provided 100 gift bags with toothbrushes and trinkets; a pleasant surprise for donors, but perhaps the greatest reward was sharing their Halloween treats with U.S. service women and men all over the world. “We’re thrilled with the response from the community and will consider offering it again next year, along with many other opportunities for youth to give back!” said Berry.
