Dear DSU Members and Friends,
With events of the past week, there has been no greater, poignant theme than that of mobilizing and taking action.
The disaster in Haiti - the loss of life and devastation is just incomprehensible but the new reality for Haiti. Boston based, Partners in Health Co-Founder, Paul Farmer articulately describes the challenges in this must read article. What can we do in Duxbury? GIVE.
Yesterday, we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday and the foundation he built for equality and social justice. Duxbury has continued his work creating a No Place For Hate Community. Dr. King encouraged "people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the Beloved Community. Through nonviolence and service to one another, problems such as hunger and homelessness, prejudice and discrimination can be overcome". What can we do in Duxbury? SERVE/VOLUNTEER.
Massachusetts' senate race is a close call today.
Whatever your political preference, what can we do in Duxbury? Make sure your voice is heard. VOTE.
It is no secret that fundraising and mobilizing volunteers at the DSU has been a challenge. Today, we have a greater responsibility to our community, nation and world neighbors. In the coming weeks, even our youth will have opportunities to mobilize and take action. DHS Student, Maddy Clark is working with the DSU to host a Harmony for Haiti benefit in February, showcasing local youth musicians. Stay tuned for more details. What can we do in Duxbury? SUPPORT.
TODAY is the day! MOBILIZE. TAKE ACTION.
