Dear DSU Members and Friends,
Hold onto your hats, it is going to be an exciting week...and a long newsletter!
Before we get there, we have to share the good times of our first ever Fist Full of Fun camp. It is a toss up which was more fun; seeing our campers in Mardi Gras masks eating copious amounts of pancakes (thanks Chef Joyce) or representing an international country in the Wacky Olympics. DSU legitimate sports included hula hooping, ping pong toss, Guitar Hero, knee hockey and crab crawl soccer. Sandy's imagination was definitely wacky and our campers enjoyed many opportunities to bring home gold for their country. One of the many highlights, stepping up to the podium (ok, coffee table) to receive a medal with Rob playing the winning country's national anthem....we heard Oh Canada a lot!!! I was ready to belt out Advance Australia Fair but the Aussie team, despite their prime time television performance, left knee hockey with a bruised finger, blistered knees and a burning desire to get back to.... training.

Freaky Friday is back this week and we continue our journey around the world. We are celebrating a belated Chinese New Year and Chef Joyce will be cooking up some treats we can all make at home. No forks, no fingers, this Friday everyone eats with chopsticks! See more info below. We are also hosting a Fist Full of Fun camp for Friday, March 5th as it is a school holiday/professional day. Again, more info below.

Our special fundraiser, Harmony for Haiti is this Friday night with a line up of Duxbury and Boston area teens singing their hearts out for Haiti, with all proceeds going to Boston based healthcare organization, Partners In Health.
The committee, Maddy Clark, Christina Auer, Kris Dowling and Luke and Ike Fontaine have recruited all the local and
out of town performers, Lead Based Toys, Abyss, Cheryl and Mike DeVaux, and Duxbury's own, The Fontaine Brothers, The Demotivators, Maddy Clark, Kerri MacLennan and Rude Mood. They have also left some time in the evening for an open mic session where additional young musicians can perform a song or two. Their vision; to create a coffee house and rock concert, all in one night.
The event starts at 6.30pm at the DSU. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for Adults. Limited Edition Harmony for Haiti t-shirts will be available for $15 along with a raffle, thanks to the support of local businesses Lux Salon, a gift basket from One, a riding lesson at Tannewald Farm and treats from Sugar Plum Bakery in Kingston. It doesn't stop there, contributions are coming from all age groups - Alden, DMS and DHS volunteers have been making twisted island inspired fabric bracelets thanks to the fabric donation from Maddy and Me designs. They will be sold this week for $1 each. DMS Red Cross fundraiser items will also be available for sale including t-shirts and pencils.

Our vacation last week helps put Harmony for Haiti in perspective. Whether your vacation was spent at home or out of town, there were many commonalities; a roof over head, food, water, bathroom facilities, heat, electricity, clean clothes, a sense of security, just to name a few. These basic needs are all luxuries for the people of Port au Prince today. Please take just 4 minutes to see this video narrated by a Partners In Health physician and you will appreciate the value of these basic needs. Click here.
The scope the disaster is truly enormous, and a tremendous influx of immediate aid is needed to avert an even greater loss of life. Partners In Health (PIH) has been working in Haiti for over 20 years with more than 100 doctors, 600 nurses, and a total of 4,000 employees on the ground in Haiti working from twelve existing PIH medical facilities in Haiti before the earthquake struck on January 12. Please help us reach our goal of $1,500 to make sure that this skilled team has the resources it needs to address the crisis at hand and help Haiti to build back better. Support our local teens as they sing their hearts out. You can also donate online at the Harmony for Haiti link on our website www.duxburystudentunion.com .
Come celebrate the amazing work of our youth. We can all do something, and collectively, it can be huge to help feed, rebuild and heal the people of Haiti. Thank you for your support!
Cheers,
