Bring your pennies for the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl Party - June 2010
|
|
We can taste the sweet success of collecting pennies and will be attending the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl icecream festival in Boston on Wednesday, June 9th. The DSU will arrange bus transportation for approximately $7-8 per child. Parents are encouraged to chaperone on the bus and car pool to the event.
In the meantime, we are still accepting pennies and so close to our $1,000 donation.

DreSsed Up

|
Get ready for the first annual DSU "DreSsed Up" Fundraiser!
Donate your child's clean gently worn dresses and jackets from ballroom dancing and the holidays to the DSU. Next fall, the DSU will hold a dress & jacket sale event for 5th, 6th and 7th grade. The sale event will be a fun way to add an extra dress for your daughters dances or move up a size in your son's jacket. The DSU will be collecting the dresses and jackets through the first week in May at the DSU.

Dear DSU Members and Friends,

We can hardly believe it! Three years ago, the DSU board and youth volunteers were unloading boxes and moving into the DSU ready for new adventures and endless possibilities. Since then, it has become a safe and engaging place for youth to call their own. For many Duxbury families, we could not imagine life without it. Today, it is a vibrant youth epicenter of activity, meeting the needs of youth from 2nd grade to college graduates.
May kicks off our Membership month at the DSU with open enrollment for Alden, DMS and DHS students as well as Duxbury students attending private schools out of town.

For our Alden friends, membership is limited to only 60 students. While we never have 60 students on any particular day, it ensures the group size is manageable and everyone participates in activities and projects. Our first year with Alden has been a blast - thank you to Members, friends and families for spreading the word about our after school program, Freaky Fridays and Fist Full of Fun camps. With an established track record, our membership for 2010/2011 is likely to fill very quickly so please send in your enrollment form. Our Alden program fee has increased slightly to offset program supplies so we can continue to provide a very unique and engaging program for the next school year.

For our middle school members, we are offering 2009 prices for early enrollment before July 1st, 2010. That means $175 for the year (no $25 registration fee required for current members), with anytime drop in Monday Through Thursday 2.45p.m - 5p.m. along with significant discounts to events, Freaky Fridays and Fist Full of Fun camps. Leadership opportunities are available to Members by serving on committees to organize events, brainstorm ideas for programs, activities and outreach projects. Members also receive advance notice of events, tickets, raffles and giveways . Starting July 2nd, the membership is $200 with a $25 registration fee.
There is always concern, will my child get value out of a DSU membership? New for the 2010/2011 school year is a drop in punchcard for students who do not feel they would use the DSU on a frequent basis. The punchcard is $60 for 10 visits. Each drop in student needs to identify themselves upon check in and their punchcard is updated by DSU staff. The punchcard is not a membership so membership discounts and benefits do not apply. If your child uses the DSU three or more times a month, the annual membership is the more affordable option. Families can trade in their punchcard for a membership if their child wishes to join at $225 (includes $25 registration fee).
Thank you to our members who served as tour guides at our open house events this week. It is always more compelling hearing about a youth program from the youth themselves. We will host open house events again in June.

Tonight, the DSU goes unplugged. Join us for our first ever Songwriters Circle at 7:30p.m, designed to give aspiring young singer/songwriters a platform to showcase their talent and get feedback from music industry professionals. Songwriters are encouraged to perform their orginal songs and share their motivations behind their music. Guests are welcome to attend. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Enjoy this glorious weather!
