More Movie nights are coming this summer! A GLEE club too!
|
|
Watch this space for summer movie nights. Avatar on the big screen last Friday night together with surround sound, made it cinema quality for everyone. Stay tuned for more movie nights indoors and out.

A rather impromtu by product of Avatar involved youth of all ages jumping on the baby grand piano to belt out a few GLEE inspired tunes.
Are you interested in starting a summer GLEE club at the DSU? Let us know of your interest by clicking here and GLEE may continue on Tuesday nights throughout the summer!

Great summer read..

This book is a favorite and a great read for marketers. It examines
how tweens, teens and twenty somethings are revolutionizing retail through their relationships, built via the internet.

Dear DSU Members and Friends,
This week, we enjoyed a number of activities, giving beyond ourselves and our back yards. Members and friends enjoyed first hand the importance of giving, participating and enjoying the ride!

This past week, we honored the volunteer contributions of DHS Senior, Nate Files, awarding the inaugural DSU Scholarship for his commitment to improve the lives of Duxbury youth through volunteerism. Nate has been the quintessential youth volunteer over the past year,
committing his afternoons to hang out, entertain and engage youth of all ages. Nate has shared his "can do" attitude and love for technology, arts and film introducing the DSU internet radio station and providing his knowledge, expertise and equipment for dances, afternoon entertainment and movie nights. We will miss Nate as he spends the summer at Camp Wing and then off to California Institute of the Arts in the fall.

We enjoyed our first field trip to the Jimmy Fund's Scooper Bowl in Boston last Tuesday. Over 60 kids enjoyed 38 different flavors from nine icecream makers and broke records for the most scoops consumed...and thankfully digested! This field trip was an absolutely glorious day out thanks to our awesome young people and caring adults - Staff Members, Sandy and Rob, Board Chair, Laura Smith, our Treasurer, Terri Woodward, Parents Lisa Keohan and Elena Zongrone and DHS students Nora Serres, Ike Fontaine and Luke Fontaine. While the icecream is a major attraction for all, everyone benefits from the work of the Jimmy Fund with critical medical research happening right here in Boston hospitals and teaching institutions. Our goal is to make this an annual event for the DSU.
Join our friends from Pilgrim Church Junior Youth Fellowship in conjunction with
for a 6th and 7th grade dance tomorrow night from 7p.m - 9.30p.m. Proceeds support Pennies for Peace initiatives in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Tickets are $10 and will likely sell out at lunchtime. There is no guarantee tickets will be sold at the door.
Next week, we wrap up the after school programming on Thursday, June 17th and kick off a safe summer on Saturday, June 19th with our 2010 Summer Fest. The DSU has teamed up with RIDE PHAT (Protect your Head at All Times), a lifestyle campaign to encourage helmet use year round for action sports such as snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, rollerblading and biking. Visit the RIDE PHAT booth to pick up your complimentary sticker for your helmet and learn more about their positive reinforcement campaign
"catching" youth wearing their helmets and being rewarded with coupons to local stores and raffles for highly coveted event tickets and prizes.

Join us at 1p.m for local and Boston bands all afternoon,
skateboarding demos and contests, giveaways, raffles and more, proudly sponsored by BERN, RIDE PHAT, Go Big Boarding, Luminate and The Surf Shop. Tickets are $15 for skateboarders (must sign up in advance with signed waiver parent consent to receive free t-shirt). General admittance is $10. All ticket holders receive $5 off their purchase of $25 at Go Big Boarding in Duxbury, Luminate in Marshfield or The Surf Shop in Kingston.
Parent and youth volunteers are needed for this event. Please RSVP here. We are also in desperate need of the following equipment:-
Five 10x10 ft pop up tents
Come celebrate the end of the school year with friends and families and kick off a safe & enjoyable summer!
Cheers,
