Dear DSU Members and Friends,
Thank you for a great year at the DSU. We are still celebrating with Scooper Bowl, another sold out dance with all proceeds benefiting Pennies for Peace and this weekend, Summer Fest 2010.

The DSU has quickly become the place to go for innovative, engaging, entertaining and safe programs for youth, 3rd grade through high school age. So, it's no wonder Tristan Cary and our Members collaborated, bringing all their
experience from a year's worth of events, to create the ultimate Summer Fest. We've got something for everyone, great local and Boston musicians, artists promoting the Duxbury Art Association's Skateboard Art Challenge, THE DEW TOUR, our friends from RIDE PHAT and of course skateboarders doing their thing! Check us out online (youtube links coming shortly), support our incredibly talented young people volunteering their talents, and have a great time supporting the DSU and RIDE PHAT this Saturday. A huge thank you to our hardworking committee. Partial committee pictured below - Shannon Thompson, Go Big Boarding, Dan Hassett, Luminate, Tristan Cary and Jamie Meyers.

Monday, June 21st is the last day of school. The DSU will be open for one hour at 11.20am for DHS and DMS friends to get together for their year book signing. Grab a snack and reminisce with friends!
Calling Artists, skateboarders, bike riders and rollerbladers.
Want to be a part of Duxbury's 4th July parade? I rode on a float sponsored by No Place For Hate and the Duxbury Interfaith Council a couple of years ago and was quite overwhelmed at the incredible patriotism of Duxbury residents lining the streets and waving their flags. It was awe inspiring! This year, the DSU teams up with RIDE PHAT and Go Big Boarding to showcase our interpretation of American Pastimes. If you are interested in designing and riding on the float, sign up here. We will coordinate some times next week to work on the float.
Here's to the best summer ever!

Summer Fest 2010 is all about safe youth entertainment. This
Saturday, June 19th from 1pm - 6pm, the DSU parking lot and lawn area will be transformed with an event that will appeal to all ages. No need to go to Boston or Gillette, the best of Boston and local bands will play right on the lawn. Ten bands, representing all genres of music, including Duxbury Idol, Ike Fontaine and his band.
There will be entertainment, including giveaways from THE DEW TOUR, raffles and food for all participants. From 2pm - 5pm the skateboarding event will take place. Skateboarders of all ages are encouraged to attend for warm ups, to try the various features (rails, boxes, ramps) and enter into the various contests. Winners of each category will receive a prize of "must have" merchandise from local board shops.
The DSU first priority is safety. All skateboarders are required to register and sign a parental waiver consent, available at www.duxburystudentunion.com or at the DSU, Go Big Boarding and Luminate. In addition, only skateboarders with helmets fastened will be allowed to participate.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for skateboarders who register and sign a waiver in advance (skateboarders registered in advance also receive a festival t-shirt). Every ticket holder receives a $5 coupon off their $25 purchase at Go Big Boarding, Luminate and The Surf Shop. Proceeds from the event will go to the Duxbury Student Union and RIDE PHAT (Protect your Head at All Times). Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult as this is not a drop off event. Parking is available at the high school and middle school.
