We are pleased to announce the DSU will stay open till the end of May with special events in June.
April 27, 2009

With ALL the hard work that has been put into keeping this amazing building open I feel the need to share two amazing moments that happened today with you.

Two Alden students came in today (one to wait for their sibling) and one to be with her mother at work (I would report this even if it wasn't my daughter). Numerous, and I mean numerous, caring, helpful members took them under their wing. The student waiting for their sibling was giving a seat, they checked for him to see when the older sibling would be back for him as well as talking to him~making him feel comfortable.

The fourth grader never made it to her mother as she was immediately called over to play a game and they even performed their song and dance for her. One member offered to help her with her homework, and another member offered to teach her to play yatzee(she chose yatzee of course).

These are true examples that as these kids grow with this building they will and can foster each other with care and kindness. A truly heart warming sight.....wish you all were here to see it.

Since its opening two years ago, the Duxbury Student Union (DSU), a nonprofit organization, has been the place to go after school to reconnect, drop in between music and sports practices, get a head start on homework, learn some basic business skills through the Blender Café, and even seek advice from Staff counselors on issues that members may have carried on their shoulders from their day at school.  The experiences of our Members are as varied as they, themselves. Our vision is to continue to provide young people with a safe haven after school and at specially scheduled weekend events for many years to come.
The Board will continue to fundraise for the DSU and are happy to have achieved a mini milestone. Thank you to all that have come forward and named the DSU as the recipient of their next fundraiser.  The future looks bright. We will reopen in the fall to meet the needs of our members, grades 6-12.  The DSU is considering a new 45 minute after school program for the Alden students. We welcome any questions, concerns or suggestions.  Please call our Executive Director, Sue Lawrence at 781.934.2290.
